Richard, I'm not getting that effect on my Win 10. Checked a mono wav and mp3 - both played from both output channels. Groove Music (yuk!) works okay, too. They are at default settings, as I never use them.
If you right-click the menu bar you get a choice More Options, with various controls. I don't see anything related to that situation. (Did see that you can rip CDs to flac. Never expected to see that option in Media Player.) There might be something with a particular output device driver that would do it, but nothing with my DAC1 driver. If you're using an RME box, check your routing.

Because every Windows machine has it. It opens much faster than VLC.
