I am in favor of a message board, but given the work that went into
creating the new ARSCLIB listserv I would understand if it's not realistic
for the foreseeable future. I respect and am grateful for the work that has
been done to make ARSCLIB a possibility.
That being said, these are the benefits I see in a message board. I would
like to think many of these are obvious:
1. It is easier to categorize by topic, as well as easier to find past
threads (which may reduce the frequency of duplicate posts/questions).
2. It can be moderated.
3. Users (may, should) have the option to receive daily or weekly digest
updates that will alert them to new threads and posts within those threads.
Alerts for each new post could also be an option. The alerts and digests
serve as email reminders to visit the message board.
4. It would, like ARSCLIB, be open to all. The message board subcategories
just organize information by topic and encourage users to stay on topic or
start a new thread on the appropriate board.
It is just a suggestion.
Thoughts?
