Hi Lou,
For the 1/8" thick aluminum platter extension I made (mentioned in an
earlier post), I made two 16" mats to fit it. One made of 1/8" thick
felt and the other made of the 1/8" thick anti-slip foam used for drawer
liner, etc. I like the anti-slip foam better because the disc tends to
slip less. I do use a spindle weight for all discs that are played.
I considered Steve Smolians idea of using 3/16" Plexiglas but went to
aluminum to keep the overall thickness of the platter extension to a
minimum. Again, I use the 16" platter extension for 16" vinyl discs
which are much more flexible that lacquer coated discs.
BTW,
If I had a blank 16" lacquer or a 16" lacquer that I didn't care about,
I would simply use it as a platter extension (with a 16" mat, of course).
