About Dave's second link :
it is entitled on Youtube "A 1905 Pathé 20 inch record 120rpm on a
Timestep RA turntable" and features loud and clear a very nice
"Marseillaise".
I wish first to add a few precisions on the historical ground as the
title is somewhat mistaking. It is true Pathé launched their vertical
cut disc during the winter 1905-1906. At that time Pathé discs were 9
inch and 1/2. Later Pathé produced 11 1/2 inches and many other sizes.
As regards the very odd 20 inch (=50cm), it was first introduced to
Pathé Board of directory in November 1908 only and was marketed from
1909 to 1913 or so. As shown on Dave's video these monsters rotated at
120 rpm. They did under the commercial name "Pathé Concert". But latter
series ("Pathé Théâtre", 1912-1913), same huge size, played at 60 rpm
only, for up to 7 minute 30 seconds audition per side.
To hear a nice example of a 60 rpm"Pathé Théâtre" here :

To discover and hear more 20 inch "Pathé Concert" and "Pathé Théâtre"
there :

A huge bunch of Vitaphone discs can be heard too on the same site.
As a contribution to the main topic, I transfer discs on home brewed
turntables including modified Garrard 401's, with transplanted motors
and central spindles set for off-centered discs, external tonearms,
symetrized cartridges and preamps, all things you can do if you are on
the handyman side.
If you are not, I wish to say you will go easier and safer at Dave's ! I
also must point out I am not a share holder here...
With thanks to him and regards to all,
Henri
