Mickey, I think just the same. It's better to live with the noise, given
you use the right stylus/needle plus eq to provide a good natural sound to
the recording. I hardly filter anything more, except the 100hz electric
parasites when they're too evident, plus editing out some big clicks by
hand, using the mouse.
These type of transfers are focused to a certain public like us, gramophone
fans who love this music and this sound. The brain is capable to filter out
the noise if what is in the background is interesting enough. And I believe
they think like us; they prefer a good recording with all the music in it,
clean and natural, even if they have to forgive a certain proportion of
noise. I hate these transfers that sound so clean and unnatural, filtering
out the noise together with the treble. The right needle is 90% of the
result, and if you are lucky enough to find a pristine copy of the record,
and the eq is right, then results are astonishing.
