Mercury purchased the Majestic catalog at bankruptcy in Oct., 1948 and later sold much of it to Eli Oberstein. Mercury kept the Eddy Howard pop material and Alfred Newman's Hollywood Bowl recordings. Obie reissued the Student Prince on every label he owned.

Subject: [ARSCLIST] Majestic - Mercury connection ??
In the 78discography site, the 1947 Majestic STUDENT PRINCE set MZ-4 (Paul
Baron Orchestra and Chorus, Genevieve Rowe, Glenn Burris)
1147/48/49 is ALSO issued by MERCURY 1181/82/83 (Set A82, date ??).
Mercury also issued the set as a 10" LP MG 25001, and as 3 45rpm discs
A-82x45 (1949/50).
The material in whole or part was also issued on VARSITY 10" VLP 6007,
Royale 10" 1892,
ROYALE EP 137, HALO 50272 (12" LP, side 1, 6 tracks).
Is it correct that the Majestic and Mercury 78's and subsequent vinyl
releases are the same
recording ??
How did Mercury come to issue these Majestic sides ??
If anyone has additional information about the re-formed Majestic Records in
Los Angeles
under Gordon Burdge. beyond that provided in my previous query. that is
eagerly sought.
Thanks!
Best wishes, Thomas.
