Engineering Reference Librarian

THE POSITION: Nimitz Library, U.S. Naval Academy, is seeking a dynamic, tech-savvy Reference and Instruction Librarian with a science or engineering background to serve as library liaison for faculty and midshipmen in engineering disciplines. The main responsibilities of the Engineering Librarian include: planning, teaching and assessing information literacy sessions, providing in-person, by phone, and virtual research assistance, and serving as subject specialist for faculty and midshipmen in engineering. Engineering has a central role in educating midshipmen to address the technical needs of the Navy and Marine Corps. It is a required part of the curriculum, and there are several engineering departments with a variety of majors at the Naval Academy. The incumbent in this General Schedule (GS grade 9/GS grade 11) position reports to the Head of Reference and Instruction and works closely with colleagues in the ongoing development of Nimitz Library as an exemplary 21st-century academic library.

THE LIBRARY: Nimitz Library (http://www.usna.edu/Library<http://www.usna.edu/Library/%20> ) has a dedicated staff of 18 librarians, 11 library technicians, and part-time student aides. The print collection of approximately 600,000 books and bound periodicals is complemented by a depository government documents collection, e-book collections, numerous online databases, and rich collections in the Special Collections and Archives Department.

THE U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY: USNA, founded in 1845, is the Navy’s undergraduate college, with 4,500 students, approximately 500 military and civilian faculty, and 25 major fields of study in three academic divisions.
