We have a vacancy for a Media Services Systems Specialist in our Libraries and Learning Services Media Services Team. In this role you will be part of a specialised team responsible for developing, enhancing and maintaining our rich audio-visual archives. You will also work to ensure the best possible access to these unique collections for our diverse customer base.
A strong focus of the role is the curation of our growing digital media collections as well as preservation management and digitisation of analogue audio-visual content. You will be developing, implementing, and supporting technical standards for repository workflows covering the capture, ingest, storage, description, and distribution of materials to end users via our various content databases and online access platforms. You will also be working to fulfil requests from our users for materials held in the Library’s Media Services collections.
Ideally you will have a tertiary degree and preferably also a post-graduate library or archivist qualification. You will have an in-depth knowledge of and significant experience with analogue and digital audio-visual technologies in an archival setting, including experience with audio-visual creation, editing, and transcoding applications. You will have familiarity with library and archival digitisation practices and standards as well as displaying knowledge of digital repository systems requirements, including technical, descriptive, and preservation metadata standards. You will be highly fluent in written and oral English language.
Accuracy and attention to detail as well as advanced problem solving skills will be highly advantageous along with the ability to think creatively and ‘outside of the box’. You will be a people person, courteous and have a strong customer service ethic also looking to provide the best service possible to users.
A knowledge of New Zealand and international broadcast media standards, programming, and history would also be highly advantageous.
