Dear MADS implementers,
A MADS 2.1 draft schema is now available for community review and
testing. The MODS/MADS Editorial Committee is inviting your comments on
the schema posted at:

Several elements were added based on the new MARC Authority elements in
support of RDA. Also, hierarchicalGeoraphic was updated to align with
MODS 3.6.
Changes include the additions of:
personInfo (subelements: birthDate, deathDate, birthPlace, deathPlace,
gender, nationality, descriptor)
organizationInfo (subelements: startDate, endDate, descriptor)
familyInfoDefinition (subelements: startDate, endDate, hereditaryTitle,
prominentMember)
fieldOfEndeavor (subelements: activity, profession, startDate, endDate)
fullerForm added as a name part type
locale (subelements: place, startDate, endDate)
workInfo (subelements: creationStartDate, creationEndDate, originPlace,
distinguishingCharacteristics)
Please post your comments to the MODS listserv by the end of the review
period on September 2, 2016.
We look forward to hearing your comments and the results of your testing.
In addition, the MODS/MADS EC is collaborating with the Music Library
Association's Encoding Standards Subcommittee of the Cataloging and
Metadata Committee on adding RDA elements for musical works (that are
not accommodated in this 2.1 version) to a later update to the schema.
