That's a tough one, Steve. Even this excellent Bruckner site...

...cannot identify it.
Good luck, and let us know if you solve the mystery.
There's one remaining Furtwängler misidentification that no one's been able to solve, either, and that's the recording of the "Overture" to D'Albert's Tiefland, which Melodiya mistakenly attributed to him on both LP and CD. John Hunt states that Tiefland does not even have an overture. This is not entirely true. The opera as it's normally performed has a short orchestral introduction that leads directly into the first scene. But, in 1924 D'Albert composed a full-length (10-11 minutes) "Symphonic Prelude", which is what's performed on the recording incorrectly attributed to Furtwängler. Leopold Ludwig and the Berlin State Opera Orchestra made a commercial recording of it for Polydor in 1940 - I have the 78, but my preliminary comparison indicates that it's not the recording attributed to Furtwängler. I need to investigate this more carefully. There are also 2 stereo recordings on Naxos CDs. I would love to be able to correctly identify the performance attributed to Furtwangler.
It's unclear whether D'Albert intended his "Symphonic Prelude" to be performed with the complete opera, or as a stand-alone work.
Best,
Gary

Subject: [ARSCLIST] Bruckner Symphony 4 Allegro
I'm doing my diligence before listing a recording of the Bruckner 4th on Allegro-Royale, credited to "Jan Tubbs and the Hastings Symphony Orchestra."
Mr. Lumpe does not seem to have identified this nor can I locate any other plausible identification of the real performers. Has anyone any data on this?
