Pardon the intrusion on this list. I do not work at an institution but I believe that those who do are by far the most qualified to answer my questions.
I have a collection of European shellac 78s from 1905 to 1910 (mostly ODEONS and also GRAMAPHONE). They will eventually go to an institution yet to be selected; several institutions already have recordings by the same artist. I want to avoid doing any damage to the records until then.
What commercially available fluid have you been using for some time to safely clean shellac 78s? If your experience has made you avoid any commercially available fluids, what do you use instead?
Thank you. Sherwin Cerini
