If you’re attending the ALISE conference in Atlanta, please join the
ALISE Technical Services Education Special Interest Group on Thursday,
January 19, at 2pm, for “Leveraging Educator-Practitioner Partnerships
to Define Competencies for Technical Services Professionals.” Karen
Snow, Associate Professor, Dominican University, will describe the
community effort that has resulted in the soon-to-be-finalized Core
Competencies for Cataloging and Metadata Professional Librarians, which
is the product of a collaboration between LIS educators and
practitioners working under the auspices of the ALCTS Competencies &
Education for a Career in Cataloging Interest Group. Susan Rathbun-
Grubb, Assistant Professor, University of South Carolina, will discuss
the work being pursued by the Education Committee of the ALCTS
Acquisitions Section to develop a competencies document for the
acquisitions community.
Hope to see you there!
