Dear ARSC Colleagues,
Many thanks to everyone who so warmly welcomed me to the 2016 ARSC Conference, in Bloomington. What a wonderful experience! I am deeply grateful for your generous financial support, awarded in a 2016 ARSC Research Grant.
Gabriel Gössel and I are honored that our first work, Recorded Sound in Czech Lands, 1900-1946, has been nominated for an ARSC Award for Excellence. You will see more during ARSC conference in San Antonio.
With help from our friends in America, we continue to learn about the record companies and music merchants who served Czech and Slovak immigrants in the USA, during the 20th century. Our discographic study will be enriched by stories of small businesses and the people who founded and operated them, in local ethnic communities.
I am eager to communicate with anyone interested in “Bohemian” music, composers, musicians, singers, and recordings in the USA.
Please feel free to connect me! During the week prior to the 2017 ARSC Conference, I plan to do research in Chicago, Illinois; Madison, Wisconsin; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
I look forward to seeing you in San Antonio, in May.
With best regards,
Prague, Czech Republic
Filip Šír, DiS.
