Thanks Karen. Yes, I'm aware of Emmanuelle and read her blog post yesterday.
Also yesterday, I learned from a different contact at the Bibliothèque nationale de France
that they (the BnF) are planning to continue using INTERMARC and to "mutate"
it ("le faire 'muter'") to conform more closely with the spirit of LRM. This
implies, to me at least, that BIBFRAME is moribund, at best, in France. The new initiative is being
referred to as "Intermarc Nouvelle Génération." I'll be extremely
curious to see what the folks at the BnF make of the March 2017 revision to
the LRM.

There was BnF representation at the recent LD4P meeting at Stanford,
which was primarily about BIBFRAME. One of the BnF folks, Emmanuelle
Bermes, wrote about it in her blog:

She's quite approachable if you would like more information.

She's quite approachable if you would like more information. Basically,
their record format (based on UniMARC) has had linking capabilities for
a long time. Ours does not, which means that moving to RDF becomes a
plausible solution. Presumably we could adopt the French version of
UniMARC, which seems quite flexible. But both France and Germany have
had the ability to link wholes with parts and related bibliographic
descriptions for a while. We are behind on that score.
