At least during the 1950s, the reviewing staff of the H. Royer Smith magazine was the sales staff who worked the counters. The magazine has a strong Philadelphia home-town rooting bent which includes not only the local Orchestra and Ormandy but, to a lesser extent, the staff of the Curtis Institute. Many were regular visitors to the store and some were personal friends of the reviewers. These reviews should be read with a full salt shaker within easy reach and the refill carton nearby.
