Nakamichis put cassettes under much less stress, better tape to head
contact and less wow and flutter. Replacing the shell can't hurt, though,
if you are dexterous enough to do it!
But bear in mind, the loss of the felt suggests that the tape probably
wasn't stored in the best conditions, be concerned about sticky-shed, or
other binder problems in your future.
