Good morning,
With the 50th anniversary of the Public Broadcasting Act underway, the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) is shining a light on the history and evolution of the newsmagazine, and the influence of public media on the programming style responsible for keeping the public informed about both important national issues and hyperlocal affairs. “Structuring the News: The Magazine Format in Public Media”<http://americanarchive.org/exhibits/newsmagazines> examines both the content and structure of newsmagazines, and situates the format within the context of how our public broadcasting system has evolved since the Public Broadcasting Act was signed into law in 1967. Learn how independently-produced newsmagazines explored hard news, like labor strikes, to topics like a day in the life of an air traffic controller, and emphasized conversations and voices often overlooked by network news shows.
Want to learn more? Today at noon ET, join AAPB exhibit curator Alejandra Dean, AAPB Project Manager Casey Davis-Kaufman and Mark Williams, Professor of Film and Media Studies at Dartmouth for a live conversation on Facebook. They’ll show clips from the exhibit, discuss the importance of newsmagazines for local communities and underserved populations and will answer viewer questions.
Thursday, July 6 at noon ET on the WGBH Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/WGBHBoston/videos/10159158821380455/
If you have any questions about the exhibit or the Facebook Live, please let me know!
Best,
Casey
