Can anyone provide a title and author for this story:
] I'm having difficulty finding a book I once read. It was a fantasy story starting with a kid going to get a branding on the back of his neck, where he's then pulled aside into a quest by a rogue clan to remove power from the dominating dragon overlords by stopping the flow of magic they receive from the people by killing a sort-of middle man dragon that ensures they all have the same power by acting as a bottleneck for the flow of magic from the people to the dragons. The kid goes on a journey across the mountains and the ocean to get to the monastery like place where the middle man dragon is living. He gets in trouble with the law on the way and in the process rips off his neck-branding and replaces it, like a fake ID. He eventually kills the dragon by poisoning. There was some bit in there somewhere that said he was the only one that could do this because, unlike the other people who could hold SOME magic, he was unable to hold any at all and was thus impervious to the negative effects of being in contact to the sheer amount of magic that flows to and from this middle man dragon. He ends up getting powers because the loose magic from killing the important point of power latches on to him. It ends with them walking back down the mountain they were on top of, talking about the events. There was another scene somewhere in the middle where he's thrown in jail and meets another species person man that's really good at digging and they dig their way out and people notice and they scatter. He runs to the docks, pays for a boat, and nopes away. Learning to fish and, as deliberately stated in the book, got a really nice tan. Just in case, the land mass is stated in the beginning to look like a hand, and he had to travel across the thumb. I'm sorry if this is too lengthy. It's just pissing me off that I can't seem to remember anything about this book that would help me find it.
Thank you!
