Those discussion forums Karl refers to seem to indicate that quad decoding could be somehow added to Adobe Audition Version 3. I don't know this for sure, but Adobe now considers version 3 to be obsolete and is giving away for free a version that doesn't require activation. I provided download instructions in the handout for my ARSC conference presentation last May. I've copied those instructions below. Audition 3.0 also has a very good phase corrector, which I use on stereo transfers of mono tapes and discs, and the nicest phase scope I've seen. The phase scope allows you to drop the cursor anywhere in the editing window and display the phase at that instant in time, without actually playing the file. Of course, it works in real time, as well. I've never used Audition as an editor, but I still find these tools very useful.

Adobe Audition 3.0 is considered obsolete by the manufacturer. A Windows version that does not require activation can be downloaded for free. Go to the download page for Acrobat 7 and CS2 products (if you don’t have a log-in account, you’ll have to create one):

I tested the two software decoders that I could find in the web a couple of years ago.

Stephan Hotto's decoder does SQ, QS, EV Stereo-4 and Dynaquad.
It's a Java application. Plays also in real time.

There are instructions in discussion forums how to build quad decoding into Audition with multiple plugins. I haven't tried that.

The best results I achieved by using AudioMulch and a handful of freeware plugins.
PlogueBidule or some other module synthesizer platform works also well.
If you are interested, please email me directly and I can tell you what you need and how you build a decoder "contraption".

You should notice that none of these software decoders don't have the so-called "Logic" properties, that later analog decoders are regarded good at. If you look for "proper" SQ decoding, the best option is possibly to find an analog SQ decoder.

The software solutions worked allright for me.
