Peter,
I think that is an artifact of the American Harvest food dehydrators
that effectively treat tapes for much less investment in space and
capital. On the other hand, your flood rescue work needs something more
than run-of-the-mill baking equipment.
Although Stuart Rohre from Arlington, Texas is now baking 15" reels of
1" tape for 30 days in incubators. The reasons for this are many, one of
them is that the tapes are on precision Corning glass reels which have
NO windows. The other is that the tapes were exposed to moist sea-level
sea air before they were deployed for recording (and also probably upon
return).
I suspect that Harvey and Irma will both provide you with much work to do.
