Thanks for sharing this, Eric. Which clarifies everything. So, it would seem that DTS HD, since it is a lossless system, meets the requirements for Pure Audio Blu-ray. These discs do sound excellent.
These are the only Pure Audio Blu-ray discs that I have which have only one program. The others have linear PCM in addition to DTS HD and/or Dolby. But, with 6 operas on each disc - around 11 hours of music each - I'm sure the discs are filled pretty close to capacity. DTS HD was probably necessary to fit that much on one disc at 192 kHz/24-bit with no room for any other formats. Linear PCM alone would probably have gone beyond the limit.
Best,
Gary

According the Pureaudio standards group, looks like it does not have to have PCM.
http://pureaudiogroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Pure-Audio-Blu-ray-specification-according-to-AES-21-ID.pdf
1. Audio formats
Pure Audio Blu-ray Discs can hold up to four audio streams. It is mandatory, that all audio in a Pure Audio Blu-ray will use either direct LPCM coding or at least one form of lossless compression. The main discriminating factor between streams will then be the channel format. One stereo stream is mandatory.
The audio resolution must be 96 kHz / 24 Bit and higher. In exceptional cases (like historical
recordings) 48 kHz / 24 Bit might be utilized.

Hi Tim,
Now that I've got things set so 192 kHz audio is actually getting to my outboard DAC, I don’t think there's any loss of sound quality. If DTS is decoded properly by the player, all of the original data is restored without loss. What I question is calling these Pure Audio Blu-ray discs when they're not linear PCM. Again, I await an opinion from the Pure Audio folks. If they respond to my query, I'll post the response on the list.
Best,
Gary

Hi Gary,
I'm not sure which issues are most important here.
Is it false advertising, or the buyer being denied listening quality?
Regards
Tim
