I had a VR II I inherited from my parents when I was a teen, and even at 14 realized it is an inferior cart. The compliance is so low, and the tracking force so high, that I abandoned it quite soon, as I saw it tearing up my records, even 78s.
I can’t help you with what those records need, but NO record in the world needs a VR II. It’s a “record-wrecker” and suitablr only for museum observation.
That is my opinion. M44 can be good if you get the right stylus!
