Hello Ben - I optionally use a 3.5 - many 40's pressings have an enlarged
groove because of the softness of the shellac. With a stereo cartridge I
recommend a slow transfer at 33 1/3. - transients are handled better that

Subject: [ARSCLIST] BEST STYLUS FOR COLUMBIA RED GOLD label from the 40s
Hi.
I'm playing those records with a GE VRII and a 2.5 stylus.
The sound is muddy. Is there a better size for that era of records?
I sometime us a 4.0 ET stylus from Expert Stylus in my Shure M44-7.
Can somebody PLEASE tell me the 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices for playing those
records?
Is there anyone who makes a 4mil stylus for the GE VRII and will mount it
in the cantilever?
Thanks.
