Keeping natural sounding dynamics while lessening dynamic range is a tough one. In some productions, we have used an anlog processor, thew Symerix 422 “AGC Leveler” which does a great job when properly adjusted. In the digital domain, a look-ahead compressor carefully adjusted can do the job. Getting the atack and release set properly is essential. I don’t use SF9, but can get the effect easily in Pro Tools with Waves…
