I have a colleague who has tried to record on a laptop using the
3.5mm analogue audio connection, and he also gets only one
channel recorded twice.  We traced the problem to the fact that
it's a  combined input/output jack, and it's wired with both channels
out, but only one in, like a cell phone.  It's a four-conductor jack.
But if you're using the USB plug for input I'm not sure what the
problem would be.
