I have also been using a VPI 16.5 for years, mostly on 78s, with Nitty-Gritty Pure 1 fluid. The VPI does a good job, has held up well, and is way less expensive than the Monks. Sometimes you have to scrub the grooves with the brush rather than just allow the record to rotate underneath it, but this is easy to do.

It's a great cleaner for vinyl discs up to 12 inches. For LPs, I think it works just as well as the Monks machine, and for thousands less. I've never tried it with 78s, but VPI notes that you should use a different vacuum pickup for shellac records than the one you use for vinyl, to avoid contaminating LPs with the grit inherent in shellac discs. I do find that it takes more than the two revolutions they suggest to vacuum all of the fluid off the record. Audio Advisor is an authorized dealer:

We also like the Groovy cleaning fluids from Bags Unlimited:

https://www.bagsunlimited.com/product/2328/groovy-vinyl-record-cleaning-fluid-32-oz
They also make a non-alcohol formula for lacquer and shellac discs:

Their record sleeves are excellent. I've been using these on my LPs for years:

Another fine dealer with excellent record sleeves is Sleeve City. I especially like their heavy weight paper sleeves for 78s:

That's my 2 cents.
Best,
Gary

I'd throw in a mention for the Nitty-Gritty line . If you only have a couple hundred disks, and you feel it's not worth the money going to one of the units mentioned below, the Nitty Gritty models do a very decent job and have very strong vacuum suction. I prefer manual models for the Nitty Gritty line.

Personal experience and online links both very welcome. I need to clean and digitize a few hundred 78s so a machine that is at least semi-automated would be great.
