Thanks, Steve, for sharing this with us.

What a touching message from the family of Frans! I remember him and his wife, Agnes, well, as they've been coming together to ARSC conferences for many years. In fact, if I remember correctly, he even brought one of his daughters to attend a conference with him.

Frans had great expertise in the field of recorded sound and had presented, with much enthusiasm, many interesting papers at past conferences.

I wish I could be in Europe on May 19, as I would have liked to attend his memorial service.

My heart goes out to Agnes and her two daughters, to have lost their very active, vital husband/father in such a tragic way.

Thanks again, Steve.

Sara Velez

To all family, friends and acquaintances of Frans en Agnes Jansen,

Our beloved father Frans Jansen passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018. As he did every Thursday, he went on his bike to the antiques and book market at the Lange Voorhout in his home town The Hague. He became the victim of a traffic accident, a collision with a truck, and died on the spot, aged 82.

The funeral service was held in private on March 22 and was a beautiful and warm ceremony. Herewith, we want to invite you for the memorial service for Frans' large network of friends, collectors, colleagues and family of course, which will be held on Saturday May 19 in the auditorium of the municipal museum “Gemeentemuseum” in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Obituary
Frans leaves behind his wife, our mother Agnes Jansen – van Daalen in The Hague, his eldest daughter Alexandra Jansen in Amsterdam, his youngest daughter Henriette Feiertag – Jansen, her husband Servaas Feiertag and their daughter Rosa in Berlin, Germany.

His professional career was devoted to market research for Philips, and later for the pharmaceutical industry when working at IMS Health. Frans always had a keen interest in anything technical, pharmaceutical, or in general enjoyed diving into a certain topic and researching it very thoroughly. The energy and enthusiasm that he spent on his collections and interests knew no boundaries and Frans was busy making plans and working on existing and new projects until the very end. As an expert on gramophones and recorded sound, tin packaging, and gas lighting to name a few, his knowledge and engagement will be dearly missed.

Invitation memorial service Saturday May 19 The memorial service on Saturday May 19 will be to commemorate and celebrate the full and energetic life that Frans led. His broad interests and expertise in so many subjects deserves in our view a special memorial service. The way Frans enjoyed life by gaining knowledge, meeting and enthusing people, and also to pass on the knowledge he had gained, is something we as daughters of Frans want to share with you. The ceremony will be from 16:00 - 17:00 in the auditorium or “aula” of the Gemeentemuseum. You are also very welcome for drinks and refreshments, from 14:00-16:00 before the ceremony or after the ceremony from 17:00 - 19:00 uur, in the entrance hall or “foyer” of the museum next door “Museon”. Please use the entrance of the Museon to go to the foyer and the aula.

The address is:
Museon
Stadhouderslaan 37
2517 HV The Hague, The Netherlands

Please consult the website www.museon.nl for getting there and parking. We have reserved 10 parking spaces at the Marriott Hotel next to the Museon, for those for whom a 15 minutes walk presents a challenge. Please send us an email to reserve such a parking space. You are most welcome to join and if you want to share a memory about Frans during the service, we kindly ask you to contact us by email at [log in to unmask]

We want to thank you for the comforting words we received from you. We know we are not alone in our grief and your words have given us comfort and strength. In view of our mother Agnes’ health, we choose not to have a queue for condoleances. Instead, we would appreciate to informally talk with each other about Frans, and then you can also offer your condoleances, of course.

We look forward to seeing you on May 19. Kindly confirm your attendance via this link: https://doodle.com/poll/pa377r4nibrbxt36, and sign up for the ceremony and drinks, before or after the ceremony.

Lastly, you are kindly requested to forward this invitation within your network, in an effort to reach the many friends, colleagues, and fellow-collectors whom Frans came to know during his life time.

Sincerely,
also on behalf or our mother Agnes Jansen - van Daalen Alexandra and Henriette Jansen
