Jeff, water as hot as my hands could take - these dictabelts were (then)
only 15 or so years old. The soaking erased the creases and made the
belts more pliable so they played very smoothly when we dubbed them to tape.
No warping at all. We then stored the belts loosely in 1.4" tape boxes
(was all we had).
Dried the belts on paper towels.
That was then; the last time JFK library came across dictabelts they
contracted them out to a professional conservator
