Dear Sally and the LC BIBFRAME team,
Thank you so much for doing this! I think opening up the BIBFRAME
ontology for public consultation via GitHub removes one major obstacle
for its worldwide adaptation. Having a public forum for structured
discussion around issues in the ontology should make it possible to
collaborate on resolving problems experienced with using BIBFRAME and
enhancing it to need emerging needs. I think that GitHub is much better
than this listserv for this kind of constructive discussion that aims at
finding solutions for model-related issues.
I've personally reported a number of issues with the BIBFRAME model to
the GitHub project of the marc2bibframe2 conversion tool, and some of
them have seemingly hit a wall because the conversion tool implements
the conversion spec and follows the model and the real problem is in the
model. For example, I suggested [1] that subproperties of bf:language
could be used to model e.g. original language, summary language and main
language of a resource instead of relying on literal values to
differentiate between these. Should I resubmit this issue (and possibly
other similar ones) to the new project or are they already being considered?
