my first suspicion would be the slip-sheet inside the cassette. The
solution is to, carefully, move the two spools of tape to a new cassette
(I've had good luck with Maxells) and rethread the tape in the new
cassette, then put the new cassette back together. That also gets you a
new pressure pad -- not important if you're using a Nakamichi for the
transfer, but important on other decks.
