One thought: this is a 4 channel deck with Simul-sync heads.  Have you
tried checked the Simul-sync switches?  You might have just left a switch
in sync mode when playing back.

I assume you are talking about the RCA outputs in the back?  If you are
talking about the headphone jack, I'm pretty sure that is just noisy in
normal operation ;)
