Dear Leba,
Sorry to hear about Allan but not surprised.
Any staff person is welcome to crib from my writeup that I sent separately and claim ownership. Classical Indian music doesn’t have a beat writer, so it’s usually hard for a classical music writer to sound informed anyway. Couldn’t I’ll bet Carl Nolte could do this justice.
For the Indian music community, this is like having MTT die and the paper unable to cover it because the one writer is away. But in that case I guess the morgue, or whatever you call it, has an obit mostly composed in advance. Hey, Margalit Fox at the NY Times has retired. Do you want her phone number?
Okay, I’m getting silly. I’ll cease and desist now. What do you think about my informing Leah? Is she here all week?
Charles

He taught many students from 1970-76 at the Ali Akbar College in San Rafael, after which he ran his international touring took over his life full-time. His last project has been for 7 years to curate and direct the annual Sivananda Classical Indian Music Festival in the Bahamas.

They will however want to respond if you have any questions in case you decide to write something.
