Email filters can be used to block email threads. Just set it up to match
subject lines containing the string "[ARSCLIST] ARSC Facebook Group?". The
same method can be used to block specific people by matching the from line.

Having a presence on Facebook is okay, and probably necessary, as a
placeholder or redirect. Years ago AOL was the place to be...just look at
old Superbowl ads. Both are examples of walled gardens.

Like others have mentioned, many of us will not follow a discussion forum
that moves to Facebook. I do not recommend splitting the forum.

A key benefit of listservs is the freedom we have for how we receive,
review, and respond to the content. It comes to us in the email software of
our choice. It has low bandwidth requirements and minimal device
requirements.

As for multimedia content...a web forum with listserv gateway is one
possible solution. The video won't pass through, but text content certainly
can. Facebook doesn't offer that.

As for chat-type systems, Matrix/Riot IM, Slack, and Hipchat exist. Matrix
offers a federated system.
