NPR's Research, Archives & Data Strategy team is offering two paid internships for the winter/spring 2019 semester that may be of interest to readers of the ARSCLIST. Please pass along to anyone you think should apply.
Digitization
Working under the supervision of RAD team members on digital reformatting of NPR's audio archive, our Digitization Intern will:
--Participate in all stages of the audio digitization workflow, including materials prep, playback and signal extraction, and digital asset management
--Develop an in-depth understanding of magnetic tape, analog-to-digital conversion, and associated technology
--Annotate and promote archives-related content to RAD social media accounts

Data Strategy
Working under the supervision of RAD team members, our Data Strategy Intern will:
--Increase discoverability of archival content through metadata enhancement and standardization of data
--Survey, evaluate and exhibit progress in a plan to enhance archival metadata for NPR shows
--Research and implement improvements to NPR vocabularies that deliver immediate benefit to client systems and individual users
--Explore potential automation in metadata enhancement and audio segmentation workflows
--Contribute to the improvement of other data-oriented workflows or initiatives as needs are identified
--Document best practices and lessons learned through this work
--Gain an in-depth and unique understanding of the uses of metadata in a unique setting
