Hi, all!
We've had some requests for applications with a per account / per seat cost.
They're not big money, but I feel like I should be purchasing enterprise
wide, or number of concurrent users. Do you have a policy on this?
I'm revising my collection development policy, and have the following
wording:
*****
SMARTPHONE / TABLET APPLICATIONS (APPS)
Content:
Based on recommendations from Subject Matter Experts (including librarians)
Renewals based on usage (cost is a factor)
We will support / promote the App version of content we purchase in other
formats (databases)
Content based on recommendations from Subject Matter Experts (including
librarians)
We will purchase institution-wide access.
If an App or database is requested by a specific department, is priced by
individual accounts, and the library does not administer the accounts, it is
more appropriate for the specific department to fund / purchase / administer
that app. The library could include the App on their specialty portal, but
would refer any questions to a POC within the department.
*****
Does this seem reasonable? I wanted a sanity check from the outside world!
(Oh, and apologies for cross-posting.)
Thank you,
Ann
