I'm dubbing and cleaning up 78s using Izotope RX6.
There are 4 types of surface noise:
That from stylus friction with the material from which the record is made
That from wear from playing
That from random damage from playing and/or poor storage
Even groove noise from the cutter, usually masked by the above.
I've been relatively successful dealing with the first 3. I can reduce and
remove the last but at the cost of interfering with the same frequency
slice which includes part of the desirable recorded signal. This sound
climbs gradually with the actual increase in linear speed as the recording
progresses.
Has anyone dealt with this in a digital program?
