I am particularly interested in rain recordings in Time Square or NYC from the 1950s-1970s. I would appreciate any leads about where I could locate this type of recording.
Capitol Records first stereo demonstration disc, issued I think in 1956,
contains a cut "Traffic on a Rainy Day", recorded somewhere in
Manhattan. Here's a scan of the front cover. Unfortunately I don't see
a Capitol number.
The location recordings were made using an Ampex studio recorder loaded
into a VW van which also contained lots of batteries and a primitive
inverter to make 120 volts AC power. Somewhere I have a complete
digital transfer of this disc, but I haven't found it yet.
