Yes I/we have definitely made it more complex, though I always thought that was the charge, to grow the program and take it statewide. I too want to make sure that it doesn’t fall through the cracks and that Linda does not get overwhelmed because we aren’t holding up our end of the team. We have both poured ourselves into the program and are so committed to it. It has made, I believe, the WA Center for the Book much more strong and visible but we’ve also made it into a lot more work to maintain.

And I’ll talk to Tami about Living Well.

Wow, I agree; the Montana literary map is pretty cool; you get to learn about the book and the state:> BTW, talked to Carolyn; she is happy to have Tami do the Wellness page; you can go ahead and talk to Tami about it. And…Crystal is vaguely interested in taking over Center for the Book if we don’t have anyone else. I warned her she would need help; lots of things you have going on! She wants to make sure it doesn’t fall through the cracks, but honestly I think you have made it a more complex responsibility. We can see if we attract any candidates before you leave who might be good or identify a team to take on the work when you leave us:>

The Literary map was kind of a pet project of Kathy McGuigan but I believe when she left no one took up the mantle. I presented about it at the Sept. meeting for Kathy and I’ve had it on my mind since. I actually have an idea to take it on as a project for myself to see if I can develop a tool that will allow us to easily create a digital literary map. This one from Montana<http://www.humanitiesmontana.org/map/> is in my opinion the gold standard. One of the many things I like about it is it is based on book locations not authors specifically. That would help with the problem of multiple states claiming one author. If I can’t figure it out there is always the ArcGIS Storymap possibility.

We are indeed waiting on the reimbursement plan.

Question: Maybe it’s in this thread already, but I haven’t seen it. Is there any progress on that digital literary map? Or was it the Pulitzer map?

Best,

Maybe the idea of “working groups” based on shared programs / interests (as in the establishment or re-establishment) might be a good post-vision all in topic? I know I would love to collaborate more.

Guy - did you say we have a new person in charge?

All - We cannot book our travel until we get writing confirmation about the reimbursement plan for this year. I am hoping we hear something soon! Are others in the same/similar boat?

Josephine - I would love to hear about the Veterans Writing Programs. We have a Community Conversation with Veterans program that’s growing and programming is usually arts based.

Sharon - good ideas as usual! Always nice to start with a vision and shared goals!

Thanks, Guy!

LAL is clearly on my front burner right now ... but after I sent that I realized that it was a down-in-the-weeds suggestion... And I'm also mindful that a handful of state cfbs don't do LAL ... so perhaps that should be a breakout session or even a virtual meeting in advance of the June gathering?

As a large group, I hope we find space for a visioning discussion, talking about how we can think strategically about the state center for the book network, setting goals that will help us push together toward shared goals, etc. How might we develop and promote more effectively our role in the Parade of States at NBF, for example? Is there a way that we might create a shared calendar of events that each of us could point to from our own sites? We've tried developing new joint programs, but given that the lion's share of us are understaffed and overtaxed, I'd like to think about how we can take what we already do and maximize effects.

I also wonder if we might want to think about adding a poster session segment to the agenda as a way to offer opportunities for individual state centers to present about specific programs. I find these sorts of sessions really terrific at other meetings I attend.
