PS - I know one Life Member and past presenter - a highly-respected person in the AES - who was going to submit a paper proposal but who decided not to once he found out about the fee. That's a loss to the AES and convention attendees. I suspect that he will not be alone. The AES may have shot themselves in the foot on this one.

Gary,
I believe you are correct about panelists and workshop presenters. But, those presenting individual papers will be required to pay the fee. That's a large number of presenters, and it's a fee that they did not have to pay in the past.

Gary, I am organizing the Historical Track for the AES Convention. None of
my presenters will be asked to pay the fee since they are panelists and
presenters as outlined above. I do not believe there is any deception in
play as you suggest, since the overwhelming majority of those involved will
be designated as presenters/panelists for their workshops or panels.
