Cary,
Thanks for the invitation to submit recommendations. I have done so in the past. As it was explained to me at the time, the purpose for the list was to draw attention to preservation. Obviously, more people will know the names of popular music musicians than concert music artists. Yet, it seems to me, that there should be some balance in the focus and I don't see any such balance. It seems to me that, like most things, it is all about money and market share. No doubt I will likely get some hate messages from such a statement yet, it would appear my question has been answered.

Karl, you may be the only person disparaging the wealth of popular music represented by the choices so far as “a proliferation of popular music performers, many of whom couldn't even sing on pitch…” That you may not be satisfied with the classical choices is a case to make, but I am confident that future generations will say that on popular music the group did very well indeed -- with caveats. These can be corrected with a larger pool of nominators from the Latin, African-American and other communities whose popular forms so enrich the culture.

All the more reason for you to get to nominatin', Karl! I'm here and ready to hear you out!
Now, I might be a little biased, but the list is already pretty diverse and people like Judy Garland, Johnny Cash, Billie, and Bing, I don't know, they sound pretty good to my ear but, of course, opinions differ.
Looking forward to hearing from you!!!

When I reflect on the items in the registry, I wonder what future generations might think of us and what we valued. I look at the list and see a proliferation of popular music performers, many of whom couldn't even sing on pitch, versus the absence of our highly trained musicians like the Cleveland Orchestra and George Szell. Am I the only person who thinks this list is a misrepresentation of the best of our culture.
