Hello all,
We're looking for around 10 Decca recordings from 1939, recorded at
Decca Studios in New York by Czech actors George Voskovec and Jan
Werich. The recording logs reveal that they were recorded on 13 July
1939. Of these, only four titles were released: two polkas on one
disc, with the titles “Zejtra je den taky” and “Šůr Polka”, which can
be found on discogs here:
https://www.discogs.com/Voskovec-and-Werich-Zejtra-Je-Den-Taky-Sure-Polka/release/13749417
Two older songs from the repertoire of the Osvobozené divadlo (Prague
Liberated Theater) entitled “Proti větru” and “Záleží nás” also appear
to have been published though we haven't found any catalogue records
showing both those recordings on one disc.
The remaining 6 recordings were supposedly not pressed onto records
because Decca executives considered the material recorded unsuitable.
Tracks that were considered failures, for one reason or another, were
the songs “Strejček Hlad”, “Kolumbovo vejce”, a two-part version of
“Píseň národů”, and the two-part dialogue titles “Vši vodní”. Any
information about where to begin looking for them would be greatly
appreciated - does UMG maintain a Decca archive, perhaps?
Thanks,
Anthony
