Dear All,
We're launching a website with a few hundred thousand bibliographic
records (mostly Tibetan but also Chinese and Sanskrit), encoded in the
BIBFRAME2.0 model (work / instance / item). We chose to display the
work, instance and item records as separate entities in the UI; but
we're struggling to find a proper way of presenting the concepts in a
way that's easy to grasp for the casual user. The two main problems we
have are:
- translating the terms "work", "instance" and "item" in other
languages, especially Chinese. Is there a repository of translations
of the BIBFRAME2.0 ontology or core concepts? Or are there native
speakers of Chinese on the list who would have some idea? I'm also
curious to know if such translations might exist for the FRBR WEMI
model?
- displaying the word "instance" in English is a little confusing to
our users (especially since most are not native English speakers), so
we're thinking of replacing it with "edition" in the UI, which is
close enough and much easier to grasp. Any comments or experience with
the same issue?
Thanks in advance,
