Hi Paul,
I wasn’t aware that copyright was a “behavioral issue.” Is there something else you were referring to here?
Like you, I do appreciate ARSC’s growth and reach in preservation.
So you agree with Kurt on ARSC not being concerned with diversity. Why do you put this last word in quote marks? Is there some other diversity than just plain diversity whose definition I’m unaware of?
ARSC members meet in significantly large public gatherings as well as in small official groups. ARSC presents a public face in both its long-running publications and statements to outside groups concerned with preservation, etc. The ARSC board, setting standards for our non-profit organization, has every reason to put forward diversity goals as well as policies for unacceptable behavior in our conventions and the meetings we hold. I truly wish that everyone behaved well with others. That’s not the world in which we live unfortunately.
Please accept my honest puzzlement with your last sentence. I not sure I understand how preserved recordings have all the ‘diversity’ (again with your quote marks) ARSC needs and our members should be exempt from any such thing.
