Hello,
Mills Music Library, UW-Madison is exploring the possibilities of a grant to digitally preserve ethnic American NYRL recordings (Paramount, Famous, etc.), and to create web-accessible metadata, building on our existing Paramount Records Discography [https://digital.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/paramount]. Our definition of ethnic American is broad- meaning recordings in non-English languages and in genres intended for different cultural and immigrant populations in the U.S. (excluding the 12000 and 13000 series, as they are well-documented).
Aside from Spottswood's work, is anyone aware of a genre or language listing for NYRL recordings? Are there institutions or collectors with significant holdings of non-jazz, non-blues NYRL discs? We are happy to talk potential partnerships, too!
Thank you,
Katie
