Lighter fluid is a good solvent for many kinds of "goo" (I figure in
this forum everyone will understand technical language like that),
including most adhesives. It seems benign to most things you don't
want damaged.
**I haven't tried it on vinyl records.** Experiment on a junk disc
first, and please report your results.
Though I know one well-known transfer engineer who uses white vinegar
to clean discs, I have the same concerns as Rodger Holtin about its
long term effects, for the same reasons. I would no longer permit any
of my records to be cleaned that way. (Yes, that means that I once
did--and, on reflection, I washed them thoroughly with soap and water
when they came home.)
