I did not realize Santa Barbara had films of Decca cards. Years ago I used the MCA card films that the Country Music Foundation had made, but I was going through the Brunswick material, not Decca. I don’t know if they are the same films, but there is a lot missing. Are the Decca masters at LoC what Escaped incineration at the Universal City Warehouse? Are they in Culpepper or Iron Mountain?

Hi,
You likely already know that the UC Santa Barbara Special Collections
Library has all of the session cards on microfilm for all DECCA
recordings, all studios, all years. I was looking for the 11-Oct-1943
Melrose Ave, Hollywood (or is it the 10th) (only) sessions with Dooley
Wilson for personnel, pianist in particular, and looked here - no
avail for personnel. (And yes, I also has a (LOC approved list)
researcher (since i am in LA) audition for chatter and inspect for
acetate etch marks at the Library of Congress where the DECCA masters
were donated and are now maintained.)
They may have engineering info however.

 I've also noticed two distinct EQ settings in the Deccas around 1940
. One
 makes Bing's voice very heavy and boomy. The other is more natural
sounding.
 It starts happening about 1939 or so-Mickey

 They may have been running the 16s as safeties, simultaneous with the
78s.
 Not all their recordings were made at World studios. Im not sure when
they
 started, nor if some were lateral masters. World was doing verticals
back in
 the early 30s, but many were done simultaneously on lateral and
vertical. I
 have a pair of World test pressings of the same 1935 Ford program,
one
 lateral and the other vertical. Same take.

 vertical masters? And the missing W is another take from the one with
the W?

Crosby
 directory now - all from original 78s from my collection . Albeit,
some are
 temporary working files just now so not a true number of songs. At
the most,
 about 20 working files at the present. I have so many alternates and
 duplicates on different serial numbers - some from a spread of five
years

 T does not mean tape. It means Transfer, as in Transfer from 16-inch
Western
 Electric Wide Range Vertical master disc. That also is what the W on
Deccas
 stands for. Notice the missing W on the non transferred one?

 Hello-I have two copies of Decca 23547 Siboney and Hasta Manana by
bing
 Crosby with Xavier Cugat.

 Both sides have this aberration.

 Siboney on the Canadian issue the MX is L3535B dating from February
11,
 1945
 Siboney on the American pressing is WL3535T6B

 I am just recording the one with the T and will compare the
recordings once
 recorded.

 Does a firm date exist for when Decca started mastering on tape? I
have seen
 this before, but on records that would have preceded the tape process
