The American Folklife Center has a few of these TalkBalk discs in one of our collections. Anybody have experience with digitizing these discs? I'd be interested in hearing from you. Photos of both discs and the container are available. Please feel free to respond either on- or off-list.

Now that I have seen the photographs, I realize these were the discs I saw and photographed back in the 1970s when the recorded sound division was still in the old Jefferson Building. They are wax coated on top of a grooved core that might be heavy card. They looked very delicate 40+ years ago. I wonder if IRENE might be the best route to go with them. Any recording would be rather weak. These were recorded with an inexpensive recording head on a small horn about 8 inches long as per the illustration. These later were marketed with aluminum blanks with a grooved tracker disc to guide the head.
