I’d like to thank everyone who has responded both on list and off. It is great to see several of the same models recommended that we’ve been using in our media conservation labs here at the Smithsonian. These recommendations and considerations are certainly helpful, and we look forward to sharing the results of this project with the broader audiovisual preservation community in late-2022/early-2023.

The A80RC is hard to beat for this - constant linear tension, a
lifter-free tape path, roller guides throughout, variable speed wind,
and an accessible head face for the application of the last-resort
engineer's thumb!
