Götterdämmerung and Walküre was recorded simultaneously straight to 2 track onto Studer
C37 1/4" tape and 4 track onto Studer 4 track J37 1" tape.
The 4 track Studer J37 1" tapes used 2 tracks for orchestra only and 2 tracks for the voices only.
Later on they went to Studer A80, 8 tracks on 1" tape.
Multitrack tape above is used for recording opera only for rebalancing purposes, in most cases
the straight to stereo 1/4" tape was the tape used for cutting LP's and for CD.
Some singers will complain if their voices have been mixed too low in volume on the 2 track master
tape so the above multitrack tapes allow to rebalance the voice/orchestra mix recording in the studio
back in London.
