Possibly the metal parts may have been knurled or burnished to reduce noise on later pressings.

Subject: [ARSCLIST] Grey Gull/Radiex issue
Hi-I have both the Grey Gull 1540 and Radiex 4190 pressings of The Sidewalks of New York.
After recording both and comparing the wave files visually, the recordings don’t look the same although the performances seem identical.
Both seem to have the matrix 3052B.
I’m wondering if Grey Gull – like Victor when they recorded Duke Ellington on the program transcription – had two separate recording setups happening.
This record isn’t exciting in itself, but there were a number of Jazz recordings done on Grey Gull.
An odd thing as well, the physical orientation of the take numbers are different from one record to the other.i.e the take number is higher than the matrix numbers on the Grey Gull but lower on the Radiex pressing.
I am trying to figure out my software to play both synchronized - Mickey
